Why did the German motorist drive into the river?

BONN, Reuters [WS]: A German motorist obedientlyfollowing the satellite-guided navigation system of hiscar drove straight into the Havel River in easternGermany, police said on Saturday.
He drove his BMW on Friday night past a stop sign, downa ferry ramp and about four metres (12 feet) into theriver before stopping. The 57-year-old driver fromHamburg and his passenger were not hurt.
Police said the driver reported he was following thenavigation system, which had evidently failed to notethat the road in the town of Caputh near Potsdam endedat a ferry crossing.
"Normally accidents like this shouldn't happen," saidpolice spokesman Frank Heinichen. "But that sort ofthing can happen when people rely too much ontechnology."
