Number of Passengers

We know that boys like to show off or impress each other. They also goad each other. The end result is often speeding, risk taking, getting distracted, and breaking rules. Playing with iPods and making cell phone calls are usually the first rules to get tossed.

You may want to discuss rules for carrying passengers, such as when it's permissible, and how many people your kid can carry. You may want to limit passengers to other kids you already know, and who know you. That's no guarantee of good behavior, but what you really want to avoid is a car full of kids who don't have your kid's best interests at heart.

In rare circumstances, a responsible teen may benefit from having a passenger in the car who can keep his eyes open and help navigate. We leave it to you to decide if your child is one of those rare few.
