The Creepy Case of the Haunted Car
RAY: When he got in through the passenger's door, the first thing he
encountered was the stick shift. He noticed that it was in gear.
Because it was an old, rear-wheel-drive car, when he lifted the car up
from the front and drove off, the transmission was turning. So, the
engine was also turning-- as was the generator. Cars of this era had a
permanent magnet generator that made electricity to run the lights.
Do we have a winner?
TOM: We do. The winner is Heather Sly from Chamblee, Georgia. And
for having her answer selected at random from among the two correct
answers that we got, Heather gets a 26 dollar gift certificate to the
Shameless Commerce Division at Cartalk.com, with which she can get a
Car Talk Plaza baseball shirt which says, "Car Talk Plaza, Our Fair
City," in baseball style script.
RAY: It also has three-quarter length sleeves.
TOM: It was going to have full-length sleeves but we ran out of money.
