No Phone Zone Day
Driver Distraction
Apr 30, 2010 ( Archives )
Friday, April 30, 2010 is "No Phone Zone Day", a national event designed to bring awareness to the hazards of talking or texting on a cell phone while driving.
The event is organized by Oprah Winfrey and will involve rallies in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Washington DC. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will participate in the rally in Washington DC as will members of the victim's advocacy group FocusDriven (check out FocusDriven.org).
Oprah states that her "biggest hope for the No Phone Zone campaign is that it becomes mandatory that no one uses their phone in the car or texts while driving - just as seat belts are mandatory, just as driving while drunk is considered absolutely taboo, I'm hoping that this becomes not just law, but second nature for all of us."
We are happy to support Oprah's efforts to curb the use of cell phones to talk or text while driving.
Take the No Phone Zone pledge by going to www.Oprah.com/NoPhoneZone or by texting NPZ to 30644.
