I was home. My wife was in our 91 Acclaim 50 miles away from home. She telephoned me to say that the auto transmission was stuck in Drive, the engine was off, and the key was stuck in the ignition. I'm no mechanic so I called Daryl (owner of shop and head mechanic at Hometown Motors) at his home at 7 pm. Through a telephone conversation, he walked me through, step by step, two potential responses that I could do (both were to save the car). When I arrived at the place where the Acclaim was, I tried the less complicated repair. I wiggled the transmssion shift lever where it enters the transmission. It worked. The transmission shifted into park, we were able to start the car, and shift into drive. We drove straight to Hometown Motors. The car was repaired within 48 hours, with a new transmission cable. What makes this story anecdotal is that Daryl told me where to find the transmission, described the shift lever, and told me how to gain access to this area. All of this was after the shop was closed. Without his counsel, I would not know where to look or what to do.

We purchased a used car from them. they went over the car from bumper to bumper and from ground to top, letting us know what needed repair and what they would repair for the purchase price. their attitude made the purchase pain and stress free.
