Personality: A brilliant academic at heart, Professor Crustwood lost his teaching job at Harvard for reasons that are not entirely clear. He settled in with Tom and Ray as a good, but easily distractible mechanic who sometimes lets his curiosity lead him away from the transmission rebuild at hand.

Background: Crusty loved Harvard so much that he signed up for one PhD program after another, eventually running out of departments.
