For some inexplicable reason, Ray let Bugsy talk him into to driving from Boston to Detroit for the Auto Show. That's 15 hours in Bugsy's bus (or Air Bugsy, as autowriter John White calls it). Bugsy said there would be eight or 10 guys, and that they'd all share the driving. Our Producer, Doug Berman, immediately backed out and booked a seat on Northwest Airlines. Slowly, five or six other guys came to their senses and came up with excuses, too. So in the end it was just these four amigos.
After an eventful, all-night journey through the northeast United States and Canada, Ray locked Dougie in the trunk of a Kia Rio, stole his ticket home, and made it back to Car Talk Plaza in an hour and a half.
