This morning, January 18, 1997, I was listening to Connecticut NPR, and you guys tried unsuccessfully to help some fellow whose car was being bombarded by bird poop. You may or may not be interested to know there is a magazine, plus about 2,500 loyal subscribers around the world, dedicated to this very subject. In fact, the name of the magazine is Hawk Chalk and it is published quarterly. It's OK to call it bird "poop" if you're a layman talking about any bird, but when a hawk does it, it's called "chalk" on account of it's chalky. Since hawks can and do eat about any bird, including other hawks, it all ends up as "chalk."

Anyway, the subscribers to this magazine are all more or less experts on this subject, and if you want to find out why birds select a particular color or model of car to "chalk" on, I suggest you call the editor of Hawk Chalk and ask him. Actually his wife is a coeditor and probably knows more about anything you might ask.
