Dear Click & Clack:

RE: Bird poop and the color of your car

Living on the coast of Maine, we have had the time to watch birds poop on any number of objects, including lobstermen (sea gulls have remarkable accuracy), rocks and our white Saab. We also have a dark-gray Saab. Guess who gets pooped on? You got it: the white Saab. What do white Saabs and lobstermen have in common? Beats me, but lobstermen shoot back at the gulls and they still poop on their heads. What do rocks and white Saabs have in common? White stuff, although the white Saab smells better. If you observe the rocky Maine coast, it is easy to pick out the bird-drop spots because they have befouled the area. The result, especially in heavily poopulated areas, are large white rocks (they have the vague outline of a Saab) covered in bird poop. So, it is our opinion that from a bird's-eye view, a large whitish spot triggers the poop. Why do the lobstermen get it? We don't know--but the war goes on.

Looking forward to any answers on whether this takes place on the glide, under power, or in neutral.

Best regards,

Andy & Dianne
