Do Yugo parts still exist?

RSS
DEAR TOM AND RAY:
I HAVE A 1986 YUGO. IS THERE ANYONE LEFT WHO STILL CARRIES PARTS FOR YUGOS OR SHOULD I DUMP IT? I'VE ALSO HEARD THAT YUGO WAS VOTED CAR OF THE YEAR....BY THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER'S ASSOCIATION!
NICK

RAY: WE CAN'T CONFIRM THE AWARD, NICK, BUT WE'RE GLAD TO SEE THAT YOU STILL HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR. I SUPPOSE YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DRIVE A YUGO FOR FOUR YEARS UNLESS YOU KNEW HOW TO LAUGH!

TOM: YOUR QUESTION IS A TOUGH ONE TO ANSWER. THE YUGO WAS NOT--SHALL WE SAY--A ROUSING SUCCESS WHEN IT WAS INTRODUCED IN THE MID-EIGHTIES. PIECES FELL OFF THE CARS, PARTS CAME OVER BY ROWBOAT, DEALERSHIPS CONVERTED TO STEAKHOUSES OVERNIGHT. "BUT HEY," THEY ARGUED, "WHAT DID PEOPLE EXPECT FOR $3995?" EVENTUALLY, THE FINANCIAL PRESSURE GOT TO THEM, AND YUGO OF AMERICA FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY AND RETREATED TO BELGRADE.

RAY: DURING THE YEAR OR SO THAT YUGO WAS STUDYING CHAPTER 11, THEIR DEALER NETWORK SHRANK, AND PARTS BECAME SCARCE. BUT NOW, YUGO CLAIMS TO BE ON THE WAY BACK. THEY SAY THEY'VE GOT NEW DEALERS, AND THEY'RE SUPPOSEDLY READY TO INTRO?DUCE A NEW YUGO AND--GET THIS--A YUGO CONVERTIBLE. WE HAVEN'T SEEN THE CARS YET. I GUESS THEY'RE USING THE SAME AD AGENCY THAT INFINITI USED.

TOM: SO AT THIS POINT, NICK, YOU REALLY HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BY HANGING ONTO YOUR YUGO. IT'S NOT WORTH ANYTHING ON THE USED CAR MARKET, AND IF YUGO COMES BACK, YOU'LL HAVE ALL THE PARTS YOU NEED. IF IT DOESN'T, YOU CAN ALWAYS TRY TO BUY A "PARTS CAR" FROM SOME OTHER POOR, EXASPERATED YUGO OWNER WHO HASN'T MAINTAINED HIS SENSE OF HUMOR THE WAY YOU HAVE.
