November 1989

Dear Tom and Ray:
I am a single 30 year old female with a better than average income. I am in the process of buying a new car and I'm torn between the Mercury Cougar LS and the Buick Riviera. What should I opt for?
Jill

RAY: You should opt for a Mercury Cougar and the French Riviera, Jill.

TOM: Actually, they are both very good choices, and you won't go wrong with either one. I perceive the Riviera, however, as a car for a person older than you. The Cougar is more youthful. Get the Cougar this time, and when you buy your next car, you'll be old enough for the Riviera.

RAY: Also, since you mentioned that you're still single, we suggest you apply the Click and Clack "single and looking" notification system to your new car. Hang a single fuzzy die in your car. It's a very simple system. One die means single, two dice means married, and three dice means you're a former senator from Colorado.Beat up old car
