#1312: When Martha Met Click & Clack

Original Air Date: 03.21.2013

   Best Moment 01:30

Description:
This week, the one and only Martha Stewart comes to Car Talk Plaza, to help bail out Tom and Ray on auto-domestic matters. How do you get crusted dog drool off a car? What's the best way to craft a shaving cream rosette on a wedding get-away car? And, how long does it take to cook a whole chicken on the engine manifold? Find out if Martha has any better automotive advice than our dynamic duo! Elsewhere, Patrick is baffled by his Camry's 50 percent drop in gas mileage; Dana's Jetta is making an alarming noise she'd like to blame on a friend; and Mark's mechanic insists that things always need to be replaced in pairs. Guess what? His mechanic is also the proud owner of a large Cabin Cruiser! Tune in for all this and lots more, this week on Car Talk.

This was a great show. So many listeners have problems with odors and appearance that I think Martha should do a regular segment on the show.

Cooking with Aluminum

by AluminumAssociation

Despite the comments by Martha Stewart in this episode there is no evidence that normal day-to-day use of aluminum products – in cookware or otherwise – causes any adverse human health effects. There has been extensive scientific research done in this field and the mainstream scientific community is unanimous in its contention that the normal use of aluminum in cooking is safe. In the words of the Alzheimer’s Association, “Studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat.” More information is available here: http://www.alz.org/news_and_events_alzheimer_news_02-02-2005.asp http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_myths_about_alzheimers.asp http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?documentID=99 Matt Meenan The Aluminum Association

Ininformed comments about aluminum and alzheimers

by KHMaurin

Very frustrated when I heard Martha Stewart's uninformed comments about Aluminum and Alzheimer's. That was debunked decades ago - http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_myths_about_alzheimers.asp.

Trust Busted!

by MMM

I have no beef with Ms Martha's political beliefs nor her legal standings. I just cannot believe that an expert like her didn't already know that the correct way to remove permanent marker stain is by rubbing over it with erasable marker, then wiping it off. Works every time on smooth surfaces. You may have to consider vetting your guests better.

Favorite Moment: I love all of your tongue in cheek humor. Keep up the good work.s

What was this part of Martha's "public service" commitment from her incarceration?

martha & aluminum

by Parrot Pastor

Martha S was incorrect in her opposition to, and information about, aluminum....whether it be in pans or foil. Her facts are wrong according to the national alzheimers association among others. She is perpetuating an unconfirmed myth.

Favorite Moment: As always, your humor and accents! I was born in MA.
