#0902: The '09 Ikea-Mobile and Other Concepts
Original Air Date: 01.10.2009
Description:
This week on Car Talk, is Detroit desperate enough to take marketing advice from Tom and Ray? Probably not, but that's not gonna stop the guys from sharing a few (how do we put this delicately?) "non-traditional concepts" for helping the auto industry get back on its feet. How about The Assemble-it-Yourself car? Or, a repurposing of the SUV as Mother-in-Law apartment?
Then, does an '04 Jeep really need a 35 minute warm-up in a Windy City winter, why a monkey seems to have climbed under the hood of an '04 Envoy, and what's behind our favorite caller comment of the week: "I used to be married until all these VW's showed up". All this, a return to the "Dark and Stormy Night" series for the puzzler, and lots more, this week on Car Talk.

Hybrid oil change
by Ruth RatzlaffTom and Ray are logical when they suggest that oil changes don't need to be done every 3,000 miles for a hybrid vehicle when much of the mileage is done using the electric engine. My 07 Camry hybrid, however, flashes "maintenance required" if it has been more than 3,000 since the last oil change.
