#0805: Click and Clack Vs. The Amorous Donkey

Original Air Date: 02.02.2008

   Best Moment

This week on Car Talk, our favorite recent car noise returns for a round of Stump the Chumps. Find out if Tom and Ray correctly diagnosed the "amorous donkey" sound emanating from inside Joan's Honda. Meanwhile, think you've heard every distracted driver story possible? Well, we've got a doozy for you involving matters of dental hygiene. Also, why a Subaru is a lousy substitute for a crib, a cranky Mini owner wonders why he's a frequent customer at Clutches R Us, and have used car dealers finally brought their wardrobe into the 21st century? All this, a new collegiate puzzler, and lots more, this week on Car Talk.

Guys, I have heard your show now and again. Happened to tune in on Feb 1 toward the end of the show. The listener that was on was saying his Saturn used oil. One of you said you had never heard of them doing that. Well guess what? I owned a 1996 Saturn SW2 up until July 2006 whereupon I sold it to my neighbor for the queenly sum of $2300. At the time it had 196,000 acutal miles on it and it always used oil! At least two quarts a month! And I have known others with that particular model in the same boat. They do use oil and can still run like a top. By the way, the neighbor I sold it to is still driving it with well over 200,000 miles on it and it still starts even in our lovely -35 degree weather. Love the show! Hudsonmom in Hudson, WI

Some drivers, like the one this listener spotted, really have NO idea what they're doing.
