Michael sold the shop to one of his employees Doug, Some time last year. I have noticed the level of work is the same great quality and the shop is always full of smiling faces. Refreashing in todays world of crumy customer service!

BAD NEWS I first took my 94 Civic to Tillery for an oil change. Doug quoted my $35, then charged $45. When I complained he honored the quote, but made me feel guilty saying he had just forgotten the right price. 2cnd - thinking everybody else loved them and anybody can make a little mistake and he did grumpily honor the quote last time - I scheduled a 60K maintenance plus tire rotation and coolant change for my 98 Civic. Doug quoted me $250 max - less if it didn't need the rotation or coolant change. When I picked up my car it was $425 and they hadn't rotated the tires. When I complained I got the same line and guilt trip - "I must have made a mistake and quoted you the 75K maintenance price, it would cost over $400 anywhere, I gotta keep my doors open." He said he'd split the difference and charged me $340. I called Empire Honda to confirm the $400 minimum for a 60K maintenance and they quoted me $330. Tillery seems to be in the habit of giving low estimates and then raising the price when you show up for you car.

This place is a great find. The guys are incredibly honest. If you ask them to do something that they feel is unnecessary, they'll tell you (whereas most dealers would be more than happy to do the work and then charge you for it). They'll also recommend lower cost options if they're available.

Pro: Friendly, communicative, very fair. Because of my particular vehicle circumstances, they did not have a 100% certainty their fix would be permanent - they were very clear if the problem wasn't solved they would put the old part back in and refund all costs. How's that for satisfaction guaranteed! It's been very nice working with them. Con: Not open on the weekend; no off hours drop-off or pick-up. I can't blame them for taking the time off, but it's still a little constraining for us office type folks.

I've been taking my BMW to Tillery for about 3 years. Doug, Greg and the techs are great! Always very fair in terms of price and the quality of work done and extremely honest. They will do all that they can to get the work done quickly, too. I recently made the mistake of taking my car to the dealer for an alignment and was given an estimate that said I needed $1800 worth of work done. I declined the work at the dealer and then took my car to Doug and he fixed the problem for about $550 (and the dealer didn't even diagnose the problem correctly - they would've replaced the wrong parts!).
