In my experience, Russ (the owner) always quotes a reasonable price and then usually does the work for LESS. He'll also suggest ways to keep a car running "on the cheap". Plus, he once discovered a problem in 15 minutes that had baffled other mechanics.

I heard about Russ through a friend & to tell you the truth, I'd had it with all the dealerships crap & was looking for a new car, not an automotive repair/mechanical shop but decided to chance it one more time. Not only did Russ explain everything (more than I ever needed to know) but he showed me the parts that he replaced, told me I could take them home & explained things to me in lay WOMENS terms. It's a very friendly atomsphere where I felt totally comfortable in.Russ made me feel very comfortable and ease.My bill was less than he estimated & it shocked me when he gave me the total. Bottom line, I've recommended Russ to all my friends & to date & I know 2 who have gone & been equally as satisfied. Thank you for having this forum cartalk. And thank you Russ!

Russ is great! He not only fixed my problem that I went to him for quickly, but he also fixed two other problems for free. He also explained what was wrong in detail and showed me the old part.

Russ is a great guy, honest, and prices his repairs fairly. He's given us great service and also advised us when repairs weren't needed (which I'm sure affects his bottom line negatively). It amazed us when we took our Ford van in to him for a brake problem. He did the quick repair and said, "no charge." Most mechanics would have charged their minimum shop rate just for us to drive the car into the repair bay.

An excellent, positive experience. I was having issues with my clutch on my '93 Honda - I live in SF, but had trouble driving into work here in Redwood City. By the time I got it to Russ (after utilizing this website), he showed me what the problem was and why, how he was going to fix it, and what I might expect down the road, so to speak, with this problem. It ended up being a simple issue in terms of parts - none were needed, just fluid and some time to work out an air bubble. But he spent about an hour on it, and charged me nothing. That's right, nothing. asked for a good recommendation and word of mouth, and to bring my car in for future needs, as convenient. You bet I will.

I went to Russ as a result of comments on this website. He took 10 minutes to talk through the problem over the phone - before he had ever even seen my car. I took it to him the next day. He spent an hour working on diagnosing the problem. He asked lots of questions and explained everything he was doing. He wasn't able to diagnose the problem yet but I'm going to take my car back. Although he spent at least an hour, he didn't charge me and said "You can pay me when I fix the problem". How unusual is that? Of course, I will go back.

This place was great!! My car was sputtering and enjoyed dying on me while I put off taking it in as I didn't want to hear the usual estimate of "400 at least". So I finally took it in to Russ after reading the car talk reviews and he found a tiny air leak in a hose and replaced it for 60 bucks including labor. He also showed me the old part and explained how the leak would have affected my performance and issued the codes. So happy and I will definitely be back (but hopefully not soon...) Also, the neighborhood isn't that bad - just industrial so don't expect something very pretty.

He showed us how the oil changers didn't fill up the brake fluid correctly, we didn't need new brakes, he did a safety check, replaced lights bulbs, etc. His prices were more than reasonable. will go back

We went to Russ based on these Car Talk reviews. Russ (the owner) is everything the other reviewers says he is. We had a mysterious air conditioning problem on our 2000 Buick LeSabre, with cool air coming out on the passenger side but not on the driver's side. Russ took all the time necessary to discuss the problem with us, and then took the car overnight to try and diagnose the problem. Russ tried to find a simple and inexpensive solution, but could not find one. He said fixing the problem would require taking apart the dashboard and replacing the A/C vent box, which he estimated would cost at least $1400, and he said it might end up costing more depending on the exact nature of the problem. He advised us not to incur that expense, and convinced us that the A/C worked fine how it was. He made some other minor fixes to the A/C which I think have helped the problem, and charged us only $72. Russ clearly is not out to make a lot of money, he just likes working on cars, and he is a pleasure to deal with.
