I had the misfortune of returning to my car after being out of town for several days to my car, which had been chosen as a squirrel's final resting place. Tune craft responded to my car problem when no one else would. I have since recommended three grateful friends and each one has saved an enormous amount of money. And in a couple of cases, their problem was first misdiagnosed by another mechanic along with an exhorbitant bill estimate. They are the best!

I take reasonably good care of my car. Meaning, I try to get my oil changed when I should and do recommended maintanence. So, I've been fortunate in not having a lot of car problems, plus I drive a Saturn. These guys never suggest treaments for my car that I don't need, engine flushes etc (like my dealer rooked me into.) I was told later by a good friend who knows about cars that this was not really a requirement. Once when my 'Check engine" light came on, I took it in to the guys at Tune Craft and instead of giving me a big bill, they gave me a lesson about putting my gas cap on properly (3 clicks! No exceptions!) That solved the problem. They haven't screwed anything up so they've never had to fess up to anything. I can't imagine that they wouldn't be honest if they had.

These guys are the BEST!!!! I found them through the car talk site and went to them because of the great reviews from others. Let me say the other reviews were right on the mark. I delt with Jeff the manager who is a very kind, honest, and easy to talk to guy who really knows his stuff. I got my transmition fluid changed with no problems and at a great price. He also alerted me to some other work I should consider getting done in the near future (my car has about 150k miles on it). But there was absolutly no pressure from him regarding further repairs. He was simply bringing some things to my attention that my car needs. I know a thing or two about cars, and I take good care of my car so I know that the items he brought to my attention were completly legit. Moreover, they didn't try to sell me on usless crap, like other shops (oil change places mostly) do. For the first time in my life I have found myself a shop and mechanic I can trust!! I would recomend them to my friends and family and would even feel good about sending my wife to them alone. (nothing bad about women, but some Unscrupulous places try to take advantage of people who might not know any better). Jeff is worth his weight in gold and this place is great!!! << It's not listed above witht he address, but their number is 858-270-5512 >>

We found Tune Craft through Car Talk after many bad experiences with chain auto stores and are thrilled with the service. Shawn and Paul are great at explaining what should be done and what has to be done. Shawn found my car was burning excess oil, checked the maker's memos, and explained the situation. He regularly tracks the oil level for us and even offered to top off the oil for free! We once found a nail in my tire and the guys at Tune Craft directed me to a place that would repair my tire for free. We always take our cars here for routine maintenance and feel comfortable leaving our cars in such capable hands. These guys aren't in business to rip you off--just offer plain good service.

I can't say enough about how much I like and TRUST the mechanics at Tune Craft. I get excellent customer service from completely capable mechanics, at reasonable prices. I've taken my Camry there several times. One repair in particular was a biggie, for which I was unprepared. I took the car in for a tune up and to get a belt tightened, and it ended up needing $2500 worth of work. Sean spent a great deal of time talking me through the issues, and explained which parts of the repairs were critical, and which I could put off for a while. I never felt like I was being pushed into a decision I was unprepared for, and I felt like I was getting expert advice from someone who really knows Toyotas (as well as other automobiles) extremely well. I also like that they always offer to show me the broken parts, so not only are they fixing problems the first time but I'm also learning more about cars each time I go in! That big repair was my first trip to Tune Craft, and I've been back several times since. Their charges usually fall right in the middle of the estimates provided by repairpal.com, and they send out estimates in pdf form to my email address, which I really appreciate. They also have $50 AAA discounts, so if I take the car in once a year it pays for the membership! My girlfriend alsotakes her Honda Civic to Tune Craft, and likes them as well (they recently charged her $750 for a job a dealership mechanic had estimated at $1100). I feel like we get the same treatment, and are talked to the same way, which I know isn't the case everywhere. Just this past week, I took my car in for a minor repair, and the job was delayed because the replacement part ended up being broken and they had to find another one. I actually got a call offering to put me up in a rental car over the weekend, since I had expected to be able to pick my car up on Friday. I didn't need it, but how many repair shops would pay for a rental car just because they had your car an extra day or two? As long as I'm in San Diego, I won't take my car anywhere else.
