Aug 31, 2006
I pulled off the highway with a vehicle that clearly wasn't making it the 30-45 min drive home. After leaving a garage manned by a mechanic who wouldn't even look at my vehicle because it was 3:55, I pulled into Eddie's. Being a woman, skeptic of being ripped off, I first noted that every person picking up their car up that day was female and that the mechanics were spending a lot of time explaining what repairs they made and why. A mechanic approached me immediately and asked what my vehicle's symptoms were (and I was actually pretty upset at the time). He basically diagnosed 2 possible situations (the first is what the problem was) explaining completely what each problem meant and how he was diagnosing it. He gave me a possible price range for parts (I was strapped for cash of course, and had to plan to pay for the repair...the car never breaks down at a good time). The first mechanic then got a second mechanic to come out and see my vehicle. He also explained things and agreed with the first mechanic on possible diagnoses. I told the mechanics that I was really short on cash and they said they would absolutely stick with what needed to be done (nothing more, they promised) to get the car home. They also said they would have the vehicle fixed for me the next day (I rolled into their garage in the evening). I spoke with the mechanic who worked on my vehicle several times the next day, each time he explained exactly what he was doing...as the computer made no diagnosis he was basically checking the fuel side of things (turns out it was a bad catalytic converter). I got a call at 4pm, the vehicle was fixed and the repair price was really pretty good. When I picked the vehicle up, I was told what the catalytic converter was and why it failed. They also told me I needed a tune up within 5K (they knew I was waiting on some money soon) or I'd have more trouble (they didn't try to manipulate me into the expensive tune up right then and there. I even got a handout explaining the repair that was made and how to prevent having to pay for the same repair in future. I felt so comfortable dealing with these guys, and they were so clear with what needed to be done immediately and in the near future, that I will literally drive my car the 30-45 min back to Eddie's for it's tune up (and it needs a major one). Finally, a garage i feel comfortable dealing with. It seems like these guys cater to women and it works. I'd go back in a second!!!!!
