I have always gotten honest staightforward information about the condition of my car. They only fix the things that are really broken. He can always find the problem as well. I just wish they were open on Saturday.

My sister, who lives a mile away, recommended this shop to me when I moved to Oceanside (August 2004). Luckily, I live only a short walk away from NC Auto, but this shop is on both the 101 and 302 North San Diego County Transit District bus lines. Since then, they've competently maintained and repaired my 1992 Subaru Loyale 4WD wagon. The owner, Mike Perkins, will take the time to explain in as much detail as you want whatever needs explaining about your car. The entire staff is friendly and courteous. This shop is busiest at the beginning of the week, but allows drop-ins on Fridays. Sometimes the repairs might take longer than advertised, but only because of some problem beyond the control of NC Auto. Their prices are quite competitive, but I'm old enough to remember the days when shops charged around $20/hour, so I'm often in "future shock." NC Auto Service is located at: 1520 South Coast Hwy. I went to this shop because of the review on the car talk website. The owner, Mike Perkins, and his staff were very friendly and competent. I even bought Girl Scout cookies from the mechanic who worked on my car. (Tagalongs. Yum.) They explained to me in detail exactly what was wrong with the car (and even showed me!) and gave me a binding estimate. While other reviewers made note about the length of time it takes to get the repairs completed, in my case, they were changing a transmission pan gasket and found the insides a mess and were taking extra time cleaning it out. They really do go the extra mile. I'm hoping to squeeze a couple more years out of my puny 98 Ford Escort and with their help, I just may do it.
