May 21, 2006 Hi, Tappet Brothers: REALLY enjoy your show. Never miss one. Tom's Auto is, in my opinion, the best auto repaing shop in Monterey. They always stand behind their repairs and service. If the car doesn't run right after their work, bring it back and they will work on it until it does. All their tools, equipment, diagnostic electronics, refer- ence manuals, etc., and personnel training are state of the art. Personnel turnover is very low; some mechanics and admin individuals have been there for close to 10 years. Tom's shop is spotless. All the people are friendly, cour- teous, competent and helpful. Tom's Auto people are SCRUPULOUSLY honest in everything from recommendations, to estimates, to the work done and to the charges for their work. I have recommended Tom's auto to half a dozen friends, and they have all become permanent customers. Best regards; drive careful, Malcolm Brown

1. Initial estimates of the problem(s)-to-be-fixed are conservative. Almost always their diagnoses are correct & time/cost estimates are right on. 2. If a job runs into new problems that will cost more and/or take longer, they phone to discuss, explain and get approval to proceed. 3. If a problem was not correctly diagnosed or adequate- ly/completely fixed, they will repair/correct for no addi- tional charges. 4. They use the latest computer systems to diagnose prob- lems, insure proper operation of car systems and validate repair work done. 5. Based on 20 years first-hand experience using their services, employee turnover is very low. Most of the repair and admin personnel have been there for years. Ambiance is cheerful. Personnel always industriously at work. I have always been greeted on a genuinely friendly, first-name basis. 6. The shop is extraordinarily clean and neat. Liquid spills are promptly wiped up and particulate dirt quickly swept up. Mechanics uniforms are clean. When not in use, tools are put back into toolboxes and test/repair equipment put back on shelves. 7. After repair work is done, the car is given a good cleaning. Windows and light lenses washed; interior well vacummed. 8. For years, I have recommended Tom's Monterey Auto to friends & associates who report experiences & evaluations identical to mine. Honest! They were so honest! I asked them to check out a couple of things a different shop had tried to sell me on fixing, and they told me they didn't need to be done. They didn't try to convince me to do additional repairs, they diagnosed some other problems (that I had asked them about) for me without pressuring me to get more work done, and the repairs they did do were done for a very reasonable price. As a woman, I have been to my fair share of scam-artist repair shops ($1500 for brake maintenance? I don't think so.), and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the quote didn't go up $200 when they saw I was female. I am taking all my work to them from now on. Two thumbs up.

A wonderful shop. First time I was there they gave me an estimate of $200, called within an hour, problem solved, didn't need new parts, total cost $18. I have been with them ever since, 15+ years. The cars are ready when they say. Totally honest and dependable, recommend to all, especially single ladies, no hassle, clear explanations and fair prices.

In Mar of 2008, I noticed my wife's right hand turn signal blink like it was doing 50 MPH. Usually we go to the Ford Dealer to have it fix'ed however, since she was on her way to Monterey I told her to stop in at Tom's Monterey Auto Repair Shop located at 870 Abrego St, Monterey. I expected a bill of around $25 to $30.00 however, I was surpried when she handed me the bill and it was for $9.00. In addition she said that they were polite offered her tea or coffee and a place to wait that was clean and warm. They replaced the turn signal light bulb and all other lights worked because she told me they explained what they did and the possible cause of the failure.......I was impressed and my wife was happy and that's what counts. On another occasion I also had a minor problem with my 2006 Ford Truck as you guessed it the turn signals went hey wire and again I went to Tom's Monterey Auto Repair Shop and they had me in and out in about fifteen minutes. Cost was low and again I was impressed. I have to say that I have never been taken care of that fast at the Ford dealer. We will visit Tom's Auto Repair Shop again if anything goes wrong with our vehicles. I'm about to come up to my required oil change and guess what....I'm heading to Tom's Monterey Auto Repair. Have a great day

I was having problems with my Ford Explorer dying at idle in stop and go traffic after driving on the highway for extended periods of time. They replaced the idle control valve/motor (?) with an "after market" part to save me some money. The part turned out to be defective, so they replaced it with a Ford factory part at no additional cost to me. There was no charge for the increased cost of the part or for the labor involved to remove the defective part and install the replacement part. They were very friendly, courteous, and informative during the entire process. Additionally, they performed an oil change that was more reasonable in cost than the one at a Jiffy Lube, Quick Lube, etc., and checked my brakes, added fluid to the master cylinder, and explained when I would need my brake pads replaced. My experience with Tom's was great and I plan to have all repair work on my Explorer and my wife's Mercedes done at Tom's!
