The shop owner, Ramon LaFracois, is a rare gem. He was my eldest son's best friend since grade school. I started letting them tinker with my old cars where they were like 12. By the time he was 16 (1990), I would not trust my 911 to any other hands or any of my lesser vehicles for that matter. Besides being the best mechanic in town, he's is to the bone honest, direct and upfront. Sadly for the non-BWM owners of the world, he only works on beemers now, but if you own a BWM in the SJ area, accept no substitutes. Ramon is currently the NCA BMW Racing Club Chief Steward, spends three months every year in Europe attending factory training and certification classes and spends his nights reading technical journals. If Ramon says it's so, you can take it to the bank. Just do me a favor, once you have had work done there, please come back here and let the other CarTalk users know what your experience was. I know it's hard to believe, but this review doesn't come close to giving him the accolades he deserves. He's the best. Period. Just be prepared to stand in line behind the local racers who have already discovered him and would prefer you never found out their secret. Thomas McManus Aptos CA

I took my Mini Cooper in for some suspension work. He was very good at explaining the problem and offered a lower price repair. Will definitly go back.

This is the best experience I've had with a mechanic in a long time. In brief, BMS provided premium service without the premium price. There were three things that impressed me with this shop: 1. They weren't out to perform as much service as possible. In other words, they were not looking to make as much money off of me as possible. (I've gotten very tired of dealers telling me that I need new tires with only 5,000- 10,000 miles of wear.) 2. They took great care to explain to me how much the service was going to cost, even to the point of double- checking that I wanted an expensive procedure done. They also kept me well informed on the status of my repairs. 3. Finally, when I was paying my bill, I overheard a conversation between the two managers on how they were able to save another customer $1,000 on a part by shopping around for it. I only got my car back today, but the service so far seems top-notch. I'm definitely taking my car back.
