AFter being ripped off by some other mechanic, I went to Transocean Volvo, not knowing the mechanic, with a leaky sunroof. Farid (I don't know his last name)said it could be three things, each problem more expensive than the other. He looked at the sunroof and found that it was the cheapest problem. I was impressed that he didn't know me and fixed the small adjustment on my sunroof for free. Ever since then, he's done all my service and repairs and I have developed an excellent rapport with him. One last note: I notice he listens to National Public Radio in his garage. I saw this as a positive from the start and it turned out that I was right.

Farid knows his stuff, but he hates it when you do-it-yourself and use after-market parts instead of OEM. Great guy. Worked on my wife's used Volvos for 10+ years. When I had the urge to jump at a used SAAB convertible, he talked me down off the ledge. When I bought my 95 Jeep Wrangler, I knew better than to ask his input ;-)
