I used to live pretty much next door to Boyds, so I took my 98 Jetta there when it wouldn't start. Fixed the fuel pump asap and explained what he thought it was and thats what it turned out to be. Another time he fixed a coolant leak quickly. Later, my exhaust made funny noises, I asked him whats up, and he took it for a day, at the end of the day I came to check it out and he said "sounds like someone is putting rocks in your muffler". Well, it turned out to be that my catalytic converter was old and falling apart inside, and pieces where falling into the muffler, a common problem. Although he misdiagnosed that problem, he later installed my new exhaust system (new cat and cat-back) in a day and it worked fantastic. They offer free estimates and will tell you what code your check engine light is throwing. They also have a paint shop and do body work, in addition to 3rd party warranty and insurance work. They also have a deal with Enterprise rental which is a block away (by the amtrak station). Even though I dont have my jetta anymore, I'd feel safe taking my miata there as they have a ton of different cars in their parking lot. From Boxsters to Mustangs to old BMW 2002s. Prices are normal for the area and he'll install parts you provide. He also talked me out of getting big cross drilled brakes for my jetta, which was nice, instead of saying "yea yea yea bigger is better!!!" with dollar signs in his eyes, he explained why I probably dont need them (because my car was a 4 door with 100hp, duh). So I feel he's honest and has a lot to lose if he wasn't, because he's so darn busy (he must be doing something right).

I just moved away from this location and will miss the quality of service that was available through Boyd's. I had both mechanical and body work done and they were excellent every time. Hope to find a place of equal quality in Chicago.
