harry has had the shop for 20 years. He has two full time mechanics that work for him. The shop is not AAA rated. There are a lot of higher end Mercedes, BMW and Porsches there. The shop does work for a few new and used car dealers in the area. My car needed a new engine. The estimate came in at $1,500 - $1,000 for a junkyard engine and $500 labor. A week after dropping the car off, I got a call explaining that the good used engine would cost $300 more and that I'd need a new clutch ($250). There was $50 added to the labor charge and $100 for small parts. The final bill came to $2,200. In short, the estimate was completely unrealistic. I paid what I had originally expected. The old clutch had 166,000 miles on it. The $100 charge for small parts, oil and antifreeze was normal. I picked the car up and the work appears solid. I've been instructed to drive for about a month, bring the car in for an oil change, keep an eye out for any differences in driveability and get a hold of them if there are any problems. If you want to try Harry, keep in mind that he may try to lowball an estimate, but his work is pretty fast and meticulous.
