OK, so I'm on a roadtrip to see friends in Arcata (Sept 2010), and the next morning my car (87 Honda Accord) turns over but won't start. FOOEY. Do research, come up with Paul's Auto Repair, call, and Paul says sure bring it in. Got the car towed there. He's working on something else, but says he'll take a break and work on mine. Does diagnosis (while I'm watching), comes up with a failed "igniter", some funky electronic part of the distributor. Locates, with some difficulty, a replacement igniter at a local auto parts (Schir Auto Parts / Napa Auto Parts; the brand was Echlin, an in-house Napa Auto brand). Installs it, works like a charm, charges me a reasonable fee for parts ($173 plus tax) and labor (1 hour; $85), and off I go. Now, I'm back in Berkeley, it's a month later, get up in the morning, car won't start, tow it to my local shop, they diagnose... a failed igniter. (!) They replace it with a new one (this time from BorgWarner BERU), fixes the problem. After a couple quick phonecalls, I send the failed igniter back to Paul, he gets a (wholesale price) refund from Schir, then mails me a check for $189 for the retail price plus tax. What a guy! Honest as the day is long, particularly for an out-of-town rube who he coulda took to the cleaners, maybe. Paul Allen, Paul's Auto Repair, Arcata, highly recommended. Thanks, Paul. You a good guy.
