Prices are high but: they always have come in under their estimate and the work is done right, and they don't try to convince me to do unnecessary work. They let me know what will need to be done and how desperate it is (can I wait a day, month, year...) A few years back they fixed an oil leak somewhere under the timing belt (did that too) and when over a year later a little $0.50 rubber something broke way under all that work they did a massive amount of labor to replace it and didn't charge me anything. And they don't treat me like a moron even when it must be really, really tempting. I felt bad when I had to buy a new car this year knowing that I wouldn't have a reason to give them my business for a few years.

I was lucky to find FATS when I moved from Fairbanks in 1979. The work performed was always excellent. I believe the true test of their integrity and competence is that they have employees that I met there in 1980. From my meager knowledge of the "knuckle-dragging" professionals, that is quite an accomplishment. As to some of your questions: Safety--just where is safe? They are in an industrial area on a major four-lane highway, so I feel as safe as other similar locations in Anchorage. As to how they treat women vies a vie males, I have no direct knowledge. They have always treated me as if I have a brain. Perhaps it is the fact that I was my dad's gofer and know how to repair a blown hose sufficient to get to the shop, as I did once. As I said at the top, I feel lucky to have found FATS. They are one of the few 'moral merchants' I've found in Anchorage. I don't mean moral in a churchy sort of way. I, like Diogenes, do not expect to find honesty and am always surprised and spread the word (however belatedly) to everyone. So, there you have it.
